By the end of the season, Swindon Town will likely lose numerous members of its first team.
Swindon Town is in or near the play-off race and is hoping for luck number three in their bid to return to League One. With consecutive league losses on the road at Notts County and Bradford City, the Robins’ early-season form has taken a minor hit. Meanwhile, Swindon is doing well after victories over Sutton United, Walsall, Grimsby Town, and a 6-0 thrashing of Crawley Town. This is an improvement over last season, when they finished 14 points outside the play-off picture. However, Michael Flynn’s team has added a ton of new talent to help them advance and return the club to the third tier for the first time since 2021.
While several new faces have just entered the building, FLW has advanced to the end of the current campaign to determine which players will be leaving in 2024 if a new contract is not reached by next summer.
Tyrese Shade
The former Solihull Moors and Leicester City youth has played regularly for Walsall and Swindon over the past two seasons, which has helped him become acclimated to the difficulties of League Two football.
The 23-year-old, who played 39 times for the Saddlers in league play, repeated that number in Wiltshire last season, scoring four goals, and has continued to contribute off the bench thus far this year.
Charlie Austin
In what may be his final season of football, the Premier League and EFL veteran is back in the Swindon Town colors.
The 34-year-old, who as a youth scored 31 league goals for Swindon Town, later established himself as a consistent goal scorer for teams like Burnley and Queens Park Rangers, netting 18 goals in the top division for the latter in 2015.
Remeao Hutton
Since arriving from Barrow in 2022, the 25-year-old wing-back has flourished, establishing himself as a significant force at both ends of the field.
Prior to the transfer, Hutton made 70 league appearances for both Stevenage and the Bluebirds. He adapted well to the Swindon eleven, contributing greatly with 12 assists in 44 League Two games.
Tom Brewitt
The former Liverpool youth player spent time with AFC Fylde and Morecambe before relocating to the US and playing for teams like Hartford Athletic of the USL Championship.
Brewitt later returned to England on a temporary contract with Swindon last season, appearing in 12 League Two games. After signing a one-year extension, Brewitt has continued to play in the center of the defense.
Rushian Hepburn-Murphy
Before joining Cypriot club Pafos in 2021, the Aston Villa academy graduate had loan stints with Cambridge United, Tranmere Rovers, and Derby County.
After appearing 23 times last season, the 25-year-old forward has since moved back to England where he is searching for more consistent playing time. So far this year, the majority of his games have come off the bench.
George McEachran
The former England youth international played frequently for Chelsea’s youth teams while on loan to Dutch clubs Cambuur and MVV Maastricht, but he has recently made a permanent transition to the senior league with the Robins.
The midfielder, who made 16 appearances in League Two last season, appears to be a valuable addition to the Swindon squad as he advances in his career.
Tom Clayton
The teenage defender swiftly adjusted to playing in the senior league, making 32 appearances for Swindon last season in his first real League Two test.
The 22-year-old, who rose through Liverpool’s ranks to lead the U23 team, signed a two-year contract last summer.
Frazer Blake-Tracy
Blake-Tracy is a seasoned EFL defender who most recently played for Peterborough United and Burton Albion. He has easily adapted to the Town backline and played 34 times last season.
The 28-year-old has continued to rise through the non-league ranks this season after an initial fruitful loan spell from the Brewers last season.
Reece Devine
Devine, who rose through the Manchester United systems, has little experience playing at the senior level. Before joining the County Ground last summer, he played a total of 14 league games for Walsall and St. Johnstone.
However, since his arrival, the teenage defender has only made one league appearance, and a major hamstring injury has kept him out of action since March.
The talisman returned home after subsequent trips to Southampton, West Bromwich Albion, a return to QPR, and a brief time with Brisbane Roar in Australia. He scored nine goals in 20 matches last season and has subsequently signed a one-year extension.
