Glen Kamara will now be left off of Daniel Farke’s Leeds United starting lineup for the trip to Norwich due to Finland’s dismal performance in their 3-0 European Championship qualifying victory over Slovenia.
The midfielder had a somewhat more forward role than the one he will do in the White shirt at Elland Road, but it didn’t benefit him, and Farke won’t be persuaded to try anything new.
Before the humiliation was completed in the 92nd minute, his Finland team had already trailed by two goals after just 28 minutes. Kamara’s performance had no discernible effect on the outcome of the match.
Although Sofascore displays Kamara’s position as starting on the left flank, his average position implies he played as a creative attacking midfielder, somewhat behind the striker but ahead of the base midfielders as he tried to offer an outlet for his side.
In 90 minutes of midfield play, Kamara lost the ball 13 times, conceded three free kicks due to fouls, and made just one challenge despite Finland having the most of the possession.
He was dribbled past once, and his team would not have benefited from him winning only five of 12 attempted ground duels both in and out of possession as he failed to control the game. He also suffered in aerial duel success, as seen by his 33% success rate.
Overall, his performance was unimpressive, and while you could argue that he was playing a new position, many of the statistics displayed would have been a big letdown for a player in the middle of the park. Daniel Farke should not risk having Leeds repeat this performance.
Archie Gray will soon get the chance to recover his natural center position to firmly establish it as his own after being dragged out to right-back, where he put on a completely outstanding performance.
