The international break ends on Saturday at Ewood Park when Jon Dahl Tomasson’s team plays Cardiff City. We have another three-game week coming up, starting on Tuesday night when Rovers travel to London to play the Lions. Rowett will not be facing Millwall, regardless of who takes over in the dugout. On Wednesday night, he unexpectedly exited the club, much to everyone’s astonishment. Although the decision comes at an unexpected moment, with the international break almost finished, it has been termed as a “mutual agreement.” It would have been his fourth year in charge when Millwall played Preston North End on Saturday.

Millwall chairman James Berylson said, “We greatly appreciate Gary’s efforts throughout his time in charge and he departs with the best wishes of everybody connected with the club.”

“Despite the short time I have worked directly with Gary, I have thoroughly enjoyed all of our interactions, and I believe that during his four successful years in charge, he has improved the club’s on-pitch status.”

“First and foremost, I want to thank the fans for all of their support during my time at the club,” Rowett stated. They really do create a unique environment. “I have had a great time managing Millwall, and I leave feeling like the team has improved under my direction. Like in football, there are moments when it feels right to call it quits.

“For all of their dedication and help, I would like to thank Alex Aldridge, Steve Kavanagh, John Berylson, James, my backroom crew, and everyone else behind the scenes.

“Lastly, I want to express my appreciation to the players for all of their hard work and sacrifice—blood, sweat, and tears. These four years have been both fruitful and fun. Adam Barrett, the team’s current assistant manager, will lead them until a replacement is identified. ‘Comprehensive recruitment process’ is already in progress, according to Millwall.

It had been especially productive to face Rowett. Since he took over as manager, no one has dropped more games versus Rovers.

After assuming the position at Rovers in June of last year, Tomasson is currently the sixth-longest head coach in the Championship. The only second-tier managers with lengthier tenure are Kieran McKenna, Steven Schumacher, Ryan Lowe, Nigel Pearson, and Mark Robins.
