Mo Faal, a young player from West Brom, was given the opportunity to play on loan at Doncaster Rovers during the summer transfer window, and he is now returning the favor.

When asked recently about the qualities of teenage West Bromwich Albion attacker Modou Faal, Doncaster Rovers boss Grant McCann didn’t hold back and said that Albion will soon have a “top” player on their hands.

Before leaving for League Two Rovers in the summer, striker Faal inked a new deal at The Hawthorns. Since joining the team, he has scored four goals in the league, including three in his past five games following a rather slow start. This has also corresponded with Donny’s recent success; following two wins from their first seven games, they have won four of their previous six.

Faal only has non-league experience after storming the National League North in an AFC Fylde shirt the previous season. He had run-outs throughout the preseason for Albion, including at Burton Albion in a 2-2 tie. He has responded by finding some form after settling in, which has been a big step up into the EFL. McCann expressed his satisfaction and high regard for the players.

“He is going to be a top player, we can see that,” he stated. “We are lucky to have him on his first EFL loan, but I believe that in two or three years the boy will no longer be able to play. We were discussing how wonderful it would be to have him for the next two or three years, but he is not a player for us.

He is a really sensible young man who aspires to improve himself, and these days, that is half the fight. It is possible to have talented players who eventually lose interest in learning new things. Mo isn’t like that; he wants to learn new things and improve.

“It is progressing well and getting better all the time,” he said. He is a really sensible young man who aspires to improve himself, and these days, that is half the fight. Although he is a robust and strong young player who can receive the ball and take hits, we want Mo in the box between the posts, therefore we are working a lot with him showing him bits of himself.

“After taking a seat, Mo and I observed how Jonson Clarke-Harris obtains locations. The first response was that he wasn’t in the box, so we are attempting to get him in between the posts because Chris Brunt frequently discusses Mo with him and me. He is really talented in the air and presents a serious threat to us.”
