As Leeds United attempts to make an immediate return to the Premier League, Pascal Struijk has been one of our top players this season. However, rumors regarding Max Wober may cause him to drop in the Leeds hierarchy.
Struijk, 24, has been playing excellently. This season, Struijk has started and completed all 11 Championship games. He even captained Leeds in their most recent match, a 2-1 victory over Bristol City. So far, five clean sheets.
In addition, he has scored three goals, two of which have been in the Carabao Cup against Salford City and Shrewsbury Town. After all of his success, he is a bit of a surprise package.
However, his long-term future at Leeds would still be subject to close examination. Compared to Struijk, Liam Cooper is in far more danger because his contract as captain is set to end in June 2024. Struijk of Leeds would suffer greatly if Wober returned. This week’s reports, though, might be more damaging to Struijk. If Leeds wins promotion, Wober will likely stay with the team, according to Sky Austria. Struijk fits Leeds’ description of a left-footed center defender. Presumably, Wober will start in defense if he comes back, even though the majority of Leeds supporters would probably prefer that Wober never put on a Leeds jersey again following his departure. Speaking recently on BBC Radio Leeds, Leigh Bromby praised Struijk’s performances, calling them “really good.” That means that Struijk would have to work extremely hard to help us advance and make an impression between 23 and 24.
Only to get back to the Premier League and find that £10.5m signing Wober had returned and would be starting ahead of him. Perhaps, Leeds should listen to the fanbase and get rid of the Austria defender.
