Aaron Atkinson, a graduate of Oldham Athletic Academy, has committed to Barnsley for an undisclosed package and compensation money.
After an agreement was struck between the teams, the 18-year-old midfielder, who finished his two-year scholarship at Boundary Park in the summer, joins the U21 squad at Oakwell.
Since joining Latics as an Under-15 from Blackburn Rovers, Atkinson has advanced through the Academy and continued to grow in the Youth Team.
“We’d like to wish Aaron all the best for his future career on behalf of everyone at the club and within the academy,” the club said in a statement.
