Nathaniel Chalobah could view his performance on Saturday, October 22, against Plymouth Argyle as a turning point in his West Brom career.
It’s safe to say that the 28-year-old has not had the best of luck since joining The Hawthorns in January, and his injury issues haven’t helped either.
After suffering a season-ending injury in April, Chalobah has found it difficult to gain the trust of Albion supporters.
Even if it may sound harsh, the former Chelsea midfielder’s lack of consistency has been a recurring trend throughout his whole career.
But Chalobah proved he should start more regularly after beating Jayson Molumby and Okay Yokuslu in the Plymouth match. Chalobah completed 86% of his passes, had a handful of tackles, and was one of just two West Brom players with a shot on goal during the draw.
Birmingham Live reporter Joe Chapman gave the midfielder high marks for one of the tackles, tweeting on October 21 that “Wow, some tackle from Chalobah on [Jordan] Houghton.”
Chalobah’s “brave” effort was praised by manager Carlos Corberan, despite the fact that it was an aimless home draw.
It is important to keep in mind that the England international with just one cap might not even be at The Hawthorns this season if things had gone differently.
Reportedly, a summer window move to Maccabi Haifa fell through [Express & Star, July 22], therefore Chalobah will have to wait for his big opportunity to shine. It won’t be another two months until he starts a Championship match, based on what he showed against Plymouth.
