Football Insider has been informed by sources that Tottenham is one of the teams keeping an eye on Club America defender Sebastian Caceres.
Under Marcelo Bielsa, the 24-year-old has made an impression for Uruguay’s senior team. Last week, October 18, they defeated Brazil 2-0 in World Cup qualification.
Spurs are now one of the teams keeping an eye on him in anticipation of a possible trade in January.
It’s thought that Caceres is also being watched by Man United, Newcastle, Fulham, and West Ham, the Premier League’s four teams. The center back, who has a deal with Club America through December 2024, plays for the team in Mexico. This season, he has made six appearances for the Mexico City team.
In each of Uruguay’s previous four World Cup qualifying matches, Caceres has contributed 90 minutes of play with Ronald Araujo, a top player for Barcelona. Young defender Santiago Bueno of Wolves has been benched as a result of his performances. Since joining Club America in January 2020, the 24-year-old has made 109 appearances for the team, having previously played for Uruguayan team Liverpool. Caceres, who was born in Monteviedo, is 5 feet 11 inches tall and usually plays on the right side of a back four.
This is true even with the signing of Dutch international Micky van de Ven, who has surprised Spurs this season.
At the core of Postecoglou’s defense, Van de Ven has forged a strong alliance with World Cup champion Cristian Romero, making the Lilywhites early favorites to win the 2023–24 season.
