Rochdale and Oldham are co-operating with police relating to separate incidents of disorder at the game
Head coach Jim McNulty has alleged that one of his Rochdale players was racially abused by away supporters during Saturday’s 4-3 National League derby defeat by Oldham Athletic.
The 38-year-old says Dale will now refer the incident to the authorities.
Both Rochdale and Oldham issued a statement saying they were cooperating with Greater Manchester Police after a number of “incidents of disorder”.
“These things are such a shame,” McNulty told BBC Radio Manchester.
“I don’t know the formal process other than reporting it to the representative within the ground, who takes care of these things and reports it to the police.”
Referee James Westgate stopped the game to speak to McNulty and the player at the time of the alleged incident, before play resumed.
Supporters clashed during the match, which also prompted stoppages, with some Oldham fans coming on to the field.
BBC Radio Manchester has contacted Greater Manchester Police for comment.
