This season, Spurs’ “worst 45 minutes with the ball” haven’t stopped Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou from setting a record for newly appointed English Premier League managers.

Thanks to goals from James Maddison and Son Heung-min, Postecoglou’s team defeated London rivals Fulham 2-0 on Tuesday morning (AEDT) and moved up to the top of the standings with 23 points. After nine games, the new Premier League manager has a record-breaking point total. The former Socceroos coach wasn’t exactly in the mood to celebrate the victory at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since he wasn’t happy with how his players played in the second half.

Postecoglou said to Sky Sports, “The second half wasn’t great for us; we didn’t play anywhere near the levels that we can with the ball.” “We were still quite good at pushing without the ball, but we were incredibly wasteful when we had it. “We’ve been really consistent this year, but that was probably the worst 45 minutes we’ve had with the ball all year,” the coach stated before to the game.

It was a “good win,” according to Postecoglou, who took over Spurs in the off-season after leading Scottish powerhouse Celtic to five trophies in two years. “The boys put up a lot of effort in their job. We won the game because of our excellent work without the ball, which has been our mantra this season, he said on Spurs’ Review Show. “We performed well in the first half. We had to wait a little while since Fulham was a well-organized team. With the opportunities we produced, we could have easily won the game and added a few more goals. To be honest, we were as impoverished in the second half as we have been all year. “We’re going to win. We’ve had another successful outcome, but there is still plenty to learn.

“Don’t get me wrong, I think people ought to like it. I am a grouchy person because that is who I am. We must seize opportunities and learn from mistakes in order to become the team we want to be, and we must not let success derail us. “I give the athletes honest feedback all the time. They’ll be curious about how they’re going to improve, and we have a ton of examples from the second half to demonstrate how we can. When Spurs return to action on Saturday morning (AEDT), they will play Crystal Palace in another London derby at Selhurst Park.
