Transfer bosses at Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly eyeing a “breakout star” in one league who is considered “key” for his team.
Who will the Spurs sign in January?
Ange Postecoglou, who took over from Scottish champions Celtic in June, has officially supervised the best start to a season by a new manager in Premier League history. This highlights the amazing work that he has done. Not only have Spurs won seven of their last nine games, but the Australian has instilled a new, visually appealing style of football that is even more thrilling.
The lack of depth behind Postecoglou’s customary starting eleven, though, may cause some worry. Spurs’ key players, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, have both distinguished themselves. Should either player suffer an injury, Tottenham would be forced to turn to Eric Dier, an outsider, or Ashley Phillips, a young player who joined from Blackburn this summer.
Thus, there have been rumors that the north Londoners are interested in players like Trevoh Chalobah of Chelsea, Gleison Bremer of Juventus, Lloyd Kelly of Bournemouth, Edmond Tapsoba of Bayer Leverkusen, and Victor Nelsson, the defender for Galatasaray. Along with defensive reinforcement, a new attacker has also been mentioned; Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy and Al-Ittihad winger Jota are two examples.
Update on Nico Williams’ move
It was recently stated that recruiting a replacement for Dejan Kulusevski and covering the Swede out wide is one of Postecoglou’s transfer priority. Jota appears to be on the list, but Nico Williams, the winger for Athletic Club, may also be a possibility, according to a new report from 90min this week.
Journalist Zach Lowy dubbed the 21-year-old one of La Liga’s “breakout stars” after he distinguished himself as one of the best young wingers in Europe lately. Williams is a “key asset” for Athletic, according to 90min, who provided a transfer update on Williams pertaining to Tottenham. Spurs are reportedly considering a move for the Spaniard and have “checked in” on him and his circumstances. As things stand, Williams’ contract will expire in the summer of 2024, which means he may walk away for free.
In addition to Spurs, other teams expressing interest in the attacker include Aston Villa, Arsenal, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Juventus. Should he decide not to renew, this may be a smart Bosman trade. Williams has started seven La Liga games so far this season and has two assists to his name. WhoScored lists him as one of Athletic’s top performers by average match rating this year.
The emerging star has also received high acclaim from his brother, Inaki Williams, who praised the athlete’s “incredible” level of fitness.
“Nico is a fantastic player who is in fantastic shape, and I believe he has a lot to offer Spain.” He demonstrated it by providing Morata with a nice pass, and I’m thrilled for him.
