Wednesday, October 25, saw Leeds United lose 1-0 to Stoke City, making it a night to forget for both Daniel Farke and the team. The Whites’ lead over Ipswich and Leicester in the Championship’s automatic promotion spots grew, and it now appears alarmingly large. Even worse, just minutes after Patrick Bamford had the opportunity to put Leeds ahead from the penalty spot, he blazed over and watched as Pascal Struijk’s own goal put his team behind.
Farke might have some inquiries to make.
Everyone is really baffled as to why Bamford was on this particular penalty, as he had missed his previous two quite convincingly. Since they invested more than £10 million in Joel Piroe, a new number nine who had already been hauled off, the 49ers Enterprises will also not be overly happy.
It is perplexing that Piroe, who was brought in to score goals and does so as his job, was dragged off the field before Georginio Rutter.
It wasn’t to be for the Dutchman, who would have been licking his lips to finish off that penalty and send Leeds on their way to another three points.
Poor. Rotation or not, Piroe just needs to be on the field when Leeds is trying to win games. Farke can substitute his number seven and give him a break when his team is winning, something that ought to happen more frequently. Instead, we are left to rely on a struggling Bamford, who hasn’t been the same since his injury-plagued first year back in the Premier League.
Hopefully, Farke learned from this, and while the 49ers may not be pleased, let’s hope that there is still time to qualify for the Premier League automatically.
