Rangers injury tracker as Cyriel Dessers to continue in attack with Danilo still a ‘work in progress’
kemar Roofe won;t make it while a late call will be made on Borna Barisic’s fitness.
It’s likely Cyriel Dessers will continue to lead the line for Rangers against Hearts this weekend.
The Nigerian struggled in the 0-0 draw against Sparta Prague on Thursday night after scoring in the 4-0 victory over Hibs at the weekend. Gers drew a blank in the Europa League clash against the Czech champions though Brazilian Danilo came off the bench, complete with facemask after a facial injury, and hit the bar late on as Philippe Clement’s side looked a little more dangerous after the break.
But after several weeks on the sidelines, Clement confirmed that the former Feyenoord man will continue to be eased back into the action. He also ruled out Kemar Roofe for the Jambos’ visit, which means Dessers will almost certainly get the nod in attack once more. The Belgian had to use Abdallah Sima as an unconventional left-wing-back after switching to a back five in Prague, with Borna Barisic and Dujon Sterling injured while Ridvan Yilmaz was left out of the European squad by Michael Beale.
An assessment will be made of the Croat’s fitness on Saturday. But if he doesn’t make, then at least Yilmaz will be able to slot in for domestic duty.
Clement said: “Kemar will not be available for the weekend – next week we need to take a good look at how he is getting on and how we bring him back long-term. Borna, we will see if he can train tomorrow or not.
“Danilo has been out for a while and not played 90 minutes for a long time – he looked bright and we need to focus on making him stronger. It is a work in progress. Cifuentes will hopefully train tomorrow with the team – Tom Lawrence and Dujon Sterling will not be available.”
