Oli McBurnie, a striker from Sheffield United, was acquired by Rangers during the January transfer window, according to Stephen McGinn.
In addition to possibly earning a high salary at the Premier League team, the BBC pundit does not believe he strengthens the Gers front line.
This summer, the Gers added Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers, Danillo, and Abdallah Sima to their attacking lineup.
“I don’t know how it works in terms of him being a Scot, because obviously Celtic and Rangers need a certain number of Scots for their European squads,” McGinn said on Go Radio, as reported by Football Scotland. Does Oli McBurnie’s front line for the Rangers look better now?
Though it’s not a banker, maybe. I’m not sure, but I believe the pay he receives at Sheffield United and could command in England
McBurnie does not seem to be the best fit for Clement, especially considering the system he hopes to implement at Ibrox.
His attributes and style of play are at odds with the club’s usual playing philosophy, which emphasizes a fast-paced, high-pressing, and dynamic attacking style. Conversely, McBurnie is a more conventional center forward who is renowned for his strength and dexterity in the air.
You wouldn’t want him to start every game, but he’ll be a useful backup to have on hand for when things get tough.
McGinn also raises some excellent points regarding his wage demands and the club’s refusal to alter its policies in order to accommodate a player of his caliber. If that’s Clement’s plan for January, then there are a ton of better options available, but he might want to bolster other areas.
