Within the next two weeks, SAINTS manager Russell Martin hopes to see summer acquisition Ross Stewart make his team debut.

On deadline day, the 27-year-old striker joined Saints, but he had been out since January due to surgery for an Achilles injury.

Stewart, a Scotland international, has been recovering at Staplewood after scoring ten goals in thirteen Championship games the previous campaign. He was present at St Mary’s on Sunday for his team’s 3-1 victory over Birmingham City, sitting next to the sidelined captain Jack Stephens.

Next weekend, Saints play at Millwall and then host West Bromwich Albion in Southampton. Martin stated that he anticipates Stewart playing in at least one of those games.

“He’s really close,” he said to the Daily Echo. Hopefully, it will be the West Brom game if it’s not next week. Che Adams, the striking rival, might make a comeback at the same time after being sidelined for the victory on Saturday due to an injury sustained at Preston North End.

“It’s not going to be a long one,” Martin said in more detail. “We’re hoping to have him back for next week, but if not, it should be the week after.”
