After nearly seven years as the Sky Blues’ manager, Mark Robins of Coventry City has garnered a lot of praise from Carlos Corberan, the West Brom manager revealed he hopes to duplicate that at The Hawthorns.
The Spaniard stated that he thinks West Brom can accomplish “amazing things” if he spends as much time there as Robins has at Coventry, even though he doesn’t usually think ahead to the next game. Since taking over in 2017, Robins has guided Coventry to two promotions. Last season, they came close to a third promotion before losing in the playoff final.
Before the match on October 30, the manager told the Express and Star, “My mind doesn’t work to this level.” I play every game with a great deal of intensity, so it is impossible for my mind to function for an extended period of time. This is how I like to be.
“If I am still in this club at that time, it would be fantastic news that I have accomplished incredible things here, which is, of course, my main goal. I don’t have time, though, because all I can think about right now is Coventry and then the next one. I only have a year to think back on what we’ve accomplished, and I know that
“The best thing you can offer clubs is this. We only stay in clubs for a short time, as you mentioned, and Mark has advanced from League One to the Championship and then to the Playoffs and the Premier League.
“I know he has a lot of passion, but he projects a very calm image. He’s a very special manager.” He is a very respected individual in my opinion.
Cheers to another six years!
Last week, Corberan marked his one-year anniversary as West Brom manager with a classy and heartfelt tribute to the backroom crew. However, his focus is now on having more prosperous years at The Hawthorns. Supporters of the Baggies will be hoping that the manager stays at Coventry for as long as Robins has, and Corberan’s dedication and conviction have been sufficient to persuade them that he will be around for a while.
Many Albion supporters fully trusted him when the summer appeared to present him with a chance to move to Leeds United, but his unwavering dedication to the Baggies was evident.
For the time being, all eyes will be on Coventry tonight as they look to secure three more crucial Championship points. After that, who knows how long his reign at The Hawthorns could last?
