Journalist Derek Clark expressed his disappointment after Rangers manager Philippe Clement started Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers in the lineup against Hearts.
Both attackers, Lammers in particular, have had sluggish starts to their Ibrox careers. Nevertheless, they will play Hearts on Sunday (October 29) with the backing of newly appointed manager Clement.
Danilo, who made a significant difference by heading in a thrilling stoppage-time winner to complete the Gers’ late 2-1 comeback victory, replaced Dessers at halftime.
Clark said, “When the team was announced, I’ve got to say I felt deflated at seeing a certain two players in the starting line-up,” during an interview with the Rangers Review podcast on Monday, October 30, at 2 minutes and 15 seconds.
“It’s unbelievable that Dessers and Lammers are initiating this game,” was one of the messages I received. terrible performances on their parts.
Alert call
Lammers barely makes an impression in the last third of the game, but he still manages to start games on a regular basis, just like he did under Michael Beale.
It says it all that the 26-year-old has only contributed one goal in 19 appearances since joining in the summer. Dessers, who has only scored four goals in 18 games as a Rangers player, has at least had some encouraging, if brief, moments.
Given that Danilo is back from a head injury layoff and performed admirably against Hearts, Dessers’ spot in the starting lineup might be in jeopardy.
This is not to say that neither of the men can succeed; in fact, as the season progresses, Clement will undoubtedly need both of them. In that sense, the victory over Hearts served as something of a wake-up call; let’s hope that the lessons learned have been applied before Wednesday’s match against Dundee (1 November).
