Latest Aston Villa news from BirminghamLive as Danny Murphy has his say on the Villans’ rise under Unai Emery.

Danny Murphy acknowledged being taken aback by Aston Villa’s turnaround under Unai Emery.

Since coming to Villa Park a year ago, the Spaniard has changed things at B6. Formerly a struggling Premier League team, the Villans are now vying for a top four spot and have qualified for Europe. Murphy thinks that no Villa fan “could have expected” the change at Villa Park under their Spanish manager. Only Manchester City (25) have more Premier League victories in 2023 than Unai Emery’s squad.

He said, “If you’re a Villa fan, what a start,” to Match of the Day. “I don’t think any of us, or any Villa supporter, could have predicted this.

“No one, as far as I can recall, believed he would enter and carry out his actions. He’s been such a welcome change of pace. It’s entertaining to watch his team play fantastic football. The athletes are getting better. He [Emery] gets the best out of the new players and the ones who he improves are the ones who are already there,” he stated. Diaby is a fantastic talent who has adapted so rapidly and easily. He is a real goal threat. As we all know, he was once a winger who played more widely. He is wreaking havoc on teams centrally. With his pace, he has this amazing ability to move you up the pitch. I appreciate that he always tries new things.
