According to former Leeds United player Ross McCormack, the Whites should stick with Jamie Shackleton at right back in order to match Leicester City’s quickness on the counterattack.

Leeds defeated Huddersfield Town 4-1 over the weekend to avoid further setbacks following their loss to Stoke City.

Shackleton, a 24-year-old midfielder, was instrumental in Leeds’ victory over Huddersfield when Daniel Farke opted to start him at right back.

According to McCormack, Leeds should start Sam Byram at left back and Shackleton at right back for the forthcoming match against league-leading Leicester, as the Yorkshire team will need to mount swift counterattacks.

The former Whites player issued a warning, stating that Leicester moves quickly forward and that he anticipates the Foxes trying to control the game.

“After the victory over Huddersfield, I would probably keep Shackleton in there at right-back and keep Sam left-back, just for legs really,” McCormack stated on BBC Radio Leeds. Leicester is moving forward at a fast pace.

It also depends on how the game is played because, when it comes time to counterattack, you want legs in the full-back area if Leicester, who have done so most games, is going to dominate possession. And he seems ideal for that, in my opinion. Leeds is determined to steal three points from the league leaders when they visit the King Power Stadium on Friday to play Enzo Maresca’s flying Leicester.
