Barry Ferguson wasn’t too happy to learn that Brendan Rodgers’ team is pressing Celtic to break their club record transfer in January.

Journalist and pundit Mark Guidi said on Go Radio that Celtic can reach new heights by breaking records with their spending, adding that “the money is there” to support such an endeavour.

The last thing Barry Ferguson wanted to hear with his Rangers hat on was that the Bhoys are already stomping all over Scottish football.

The former midfield player said, “I hope the Celtic board aren’t listening,” and acknowledged that it does “worry” him. One could argue that supporters expected the team to go above and beyond to sign Brendan Rodgers, who is returning, so the recent summer transfer window was a little disappointing. While Luis Palma, for example, has had a good start, there was nothing wrong with the faces that were brought in. However, the arrival of one or more high-profile players could make the difference between the team failing to qualify for the playoffs in Europe.

Barry Ferguson’s “worry” about Celtics
Mark Guidi advised Celtic to go ahead and break their transfer record fee if they thought it would be a wise investment. The cash is available. Get some better players, please. Get some players who are prepared to play and have an impact; I believe they would have more points in Europe if they did that.

“I hope the Celtic board aren’t listening because that worries me,” Barry Ferguson retorted.

Will Celtic make a bold move?
Considering that January is the middle of the season, don’t expect any significant movement; that being said, Chris Sutton has stated that depth is necessary. Furthermore, it has been predicted that strikers from Aberdeen and Hearts, as well as players from the left, right, and centre, Lawrence Shankland and Bojan Miovski, will move to Parkhead.

It’s just a matter of adding depth if any of those were to join; they wouldn’t be regarded as big-name players or high-profile signings.

It might be a genuine declaration of intent from the Celtic board to support Rodgers by adding a couple Premier League players.
