According to Neil Warnock, several of Erik ten Hag’s acquisitions for Manchester United would not have made it into his Huddersfield Town squad for the Championship.

In September, Warnock resigned as manager of Huddersfield, a lower division team, and he believes Ten Hag, the United manager, will lose his job due to increasing pressure.

In a talkSPORT interview, the 74-year-old attacked Ten Hag, attacking the team’s philosophy, his choice to make Bruno Fernandes captain, as well as some of the failures he brought to Old Trafford during his time at United.

For instance, Antony, whom Ten Hag paid an incredible £85 million to sign from his previous team Ajax, has only contributed 11 goals in 53 games for the Red Devils, even though Warnock did not mention him by name during his tirade on Wednesday.

When asked about Ten Hag, Warnock responded, “I thought when he first came over that he was going to be the answer, because they needed a disciplinarian in that environment. But I’ve got to say, I haven’t enjoyed watching how he has gone about it. The money that he has spent—people tend to forget. The owners, regardless of your opinion of them, have spent some incredible sums of money. Some of the players he has paid £60–£70 million for, I wouldn’t have them at Huddersfield.

I can’t tell what they’re trying to accomplish from the way they play. I see them holding onto possession.

“And I spot the captain.” I’ll never understand how Bruno Fernandes is able to be captain. Nothing is ever his fault, he says, waving his arms around. I don’t perceive a joyful atmosphere. I don’t believe this manager can resolve the issue. Nor do I think he wants to stick around. He is aware that he is hitting a brick wall with his head.
