According to Michael Stewart, Liam Scales’ failure to prevent St Mirren from taking the lead against Celtic on Wednesday night left Greg Taylor “not happy.”

After seven minutes, Conor McMenamin gave the Scottish Premiership surprise packages a lead, but Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic team still managed to salvage a valuable three points.

Nat Phillips was forced wide, so Liam Scales and Greg Taylor had to handle St. Mirren’s offensive threat from the penalty box.

Replays, however, showed Greg Taylor yelling at Liam Scales for failing to handle the cross from the left channel as Conor McMenamin got between Celtic’s defensive pair and headed home. However, Michael Stewart admitted to Sportscene that “it’s actually Greg Taylor’s fault” because the St. Mirren hitman was meant to be marked by him. Upon reviewing the replays, Liam Scales noticed that his Celtic teammate had marked the eventual goal scorer prior to marking Toyosi Olusanya.

Greg Taylor and Liam Scales
Stewart remarked, “St Mirren did really, really well with the goal.” A lengthy sphere. Onto the second ball, though. They remain calm. They maintain control and perform the job incredibly well. It switches out wide, then comes back to move forward. You witness Nat Phillips being hauled straight out of the defensive centre. Kiltie hits a fantastic ball in that really causes issues. It’s just McMenamin and himself.

See Greg Taylor there? He is not content. However, it’s really his fault. Scales can be seen peering over his shoulder. He notices Taylor owns a McMenamin.

However, as soon as Scales looks up at Olusanya. Taylor moves to the rear post. At that point, the player at the back post is the least dangerous. McMenamin is also free to insert the header. Taylor must continue using McMenamin.

Celtic retaliation
You may have assumed the worst when St. Mirren took the lead and realised Brendan Rodgers’ team was in for a challenging football evening.

However, the Bhoys responded almost immediately, with David Turnbull scoring a spectacular curling attempt from the box’s edge.

It didn’t help that he missed a penalty kick before the first half ended, but Oh Hyeon-gyu made the most of it by scoring the game’s winning goal from the bench and his first goal of the year. The fact that Rodgers can play well off the bench if he needs to rotate was encouraging to him and made for a fantastic moment for him.
