In the most recent episode of their docuseries “Welcome to Wrexham,” Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney made light of Notts County striker Macaulay Langstaff’s comments, telling him to “f*** off.” The two said this during a show in which the Welsh team played their league rival in a match that had to be won.

The teams faced each other in the aforementioned game during the previous season, with each club leading the table with 100 points. In the race for promotion to League Two, a victory would prove to be crucial for three points for either team.

In the most recent episode of the docuseries, Reynolds and McElhenney spoke about the significance of the event and talked about Wrexham’s opponents, especially their star forward Langstaff.

McElhenney was heard saying, “Macaulay Langstaff, he can f*** off,” to which Reynolds responded, “Yeah, god that guy is good.” He’s extremely attractive. He appears to be a potential star of Peaky Blinders.” In response to the co-owners’ remarks, McElhenney merely said, “Bullshit.”

Later in the episode, Reynolds talked about his anxiety before the match. “I have never in my f***ing life been this wound up for a match,” he stated. “What happened before with Halifax [who defeated Wrexham 3-1 prior to the game] created a sort of vortex, a vice grip of anxiety, a dread.”

The game, which saw Notts County take the lead, would put the Hollywood actor’s nerves to the test even more. Then, in dramatic fashion, Wrexham would win the match 3-2, thanks in part to a late penalty save by former Premier League custodian Ben Foster, who helped the team win all three points.

“It seemed like a timeless Wrexham experience,” Reynolds remarked after the victory. “Let’s figure out a f***ing method to get the most fear, anxiety, and edge-of-your-seat stuff out of this thing.”

Wrexham would go on to win their first league title in forty-five years with the help of the pivotal victory. In addition, after a 15-year absence, it would be the team’s first promotion back into League Two.

With 111 points, the Red Dragons would set a new mark for the most points in a season. Notts County came in second with 107 points. Notts County was also given a promotion at the conclusion of the season, and in their most recent match, both teams played their rivals.

Elliot Lee and Ollie Palmer’s late goals sealed a 2-0 victory at Meadow Lane, giving Wrexham another victory on the occasion. With the victory, the team now has the same number of points and sits third in the table, level with their opponents who have a slim advantage due to goal differential. With eight wins, six draws, and just two losses in their first two games since promotion, Wrexham has had great success. Next is the team.
