Phil Hay claims that Crysencio Summerville and Daniel Farke, the manager of Leeds United, have “clicked in a big way” to dispel earlier concerns about Summerville’s alleged need for mentoring.

Prior to the team’s trip to Leicester City the next day, the Athletic reporter stated on The Square Ball preview show on November 2 that the Dutch winger, who is still in excellent form under the German, had “knuckled down massively.” Previous theories that he needed buddy and teammate Willy Gnonto’s influence to “keep him on the straight and narrow” seem to have been debunked as the 22-year-old has become an essential member of the starting lineup.

“He just seems to have knuckled down massively,” Hay remarked (8 minutes and 30 seconds in). If you go back a few years, there has always been some discussion regarding his attitude.

Summerville was greatly benefited by Gnonto, according to [Jesse] Marsch, who would often say as much, almost as if Summerville required that kind of direction and discipline to stay on course.

“However, it appears that Summerville and Farke are now really clicking.”

Fantastic

Marsch was clearly the manager and had considerably more insider knowledge of the Leeds United players than anybody else, but general inquiries concerning a player’s demeanour without concrete evidence frequently seem to boil down to basic personality conflicts and run the risk of unfairly portraying a player in a bad light. Hiring Farke appears to be the most significant summer hiring choice if he has shown himself to be the right kind of manager for the young wide player. By all accounts, Summerville has outperformed Gnonto this season both as an important player on the pitch and in terms of his dedication to the team.

The two are still close, and Summerville’s current brilliant form could potentially be impacted by leaving for the Italy international.

But it is hard to blame the Dutchman this season for accepting responsibility and helping to advance this Whites side with ever-more-significant contributions. If he stays healthy, he should receive just as much credit as Farke for his growth during the previous season and for the benefit of the team.
