When Ryan Reynolds learned how much money he and co-owner Rob McElhenney had lost since buying Wrexham, he thought he was going to “throw up”.
WHAT TAKEN PLACE?
After taking over the Welsh club two years ago, the owners discovered that they had lost $12 million (£10 million).
After spending an estimated £2 million on Wrexham, the Hollywood stars witnessed the team’s incredible rise in global popularity and saw it promoted from the National League to League Two.

In the documentary series Welcome to Wrexham, it was revealed that the owners are still losing money despite a significant increase in ticket and shirt sales and the development of a significant social media presence.
WHAT IT SAYS
Upon learning that they have lost nearly $12 million since purchasing the team, Reynolds declared on the show, “I’m going to throw up. Advisor Shaun Harvey responded, “The value that’s coming from the global appeal we’ve been able to create is going to offset those additional costs that we’ve created,” to McElhenney’s question about when he can expect to make money from Wrexham. The ability of the public to recognise the worth of Welcome to Wrexham is the main aspect of the promotion that will change. They are able to recognise the worth of the profile being created. At that point, more sponsorship income is potentially produced.
UP NEXT: WHAT HAPPENS?
On Saturday, Wrexham will play Mansfield in the FA Cup. The two League Two teams will face off in this match; Wrexham is currently in third place in the standings, while Mansfield is one point behind in fourth.
