The authors of The72 predict the Mansfield Town vs. Wrexham match before this Saturday’s FA Cup match.
Mansfield Town enters this weekend’s FA Cup match fresh off a heartbreaking EFL Cup exit. The Stags suffered their first loss of the season to Port Vale, with a quarterfinal spot up for grabs.
However, they have the opportunity to recover swiftly. After playing to a scoreless draw at Field Mill against Wrexham earlier in the season, Nigel Clough’s team will be motivated to defeat their League Two rivals in this encounter.
Both League Two teams have a strong chance of advancing in a matchup, and Wrexham will be motivated to return to the FA Cup after their successful campaign the previous year.
Despite having played one extra game than Mansfield, the North Wales team is now one spot and one point above of them in the League Two standings.
Here are some of our writers’ predictions for the match…
Ray James
I’m not convinced there’ll be enough to split these two here either, having played out a tie in October. While cup events offer a chance to switch things up, both teams should aim to outperform their League Two counterparts.
Mansfield will be aware that they must overcome their setback against Port Vale. It was their first defeat in every tournament, and Clough must make sure the setback doesn’t cause their play to suffer.
“I see these two drawing together once more, preparing for a rematch at the Racecourse.”
Mansfield Town vs Wrexham prediction: 1-1
Luke Phelps
“We’re seeing the best of both teams right now. Mansfield will be disappointed to be out of the cup but it means they can put more focus on the league, with a really difficult game on the cards here.
“Wrexham have been very strong over the past few weeks, but they’re still conceding goals, and so I think we could see a few go in in this one.
“I’ll say draw.”
