Wrexham’s George Evans said he would “love” a chance to face off against Man City in the FA Cup this season.
The midfielder came through the ranks at the Premier League Champions, before moving to Reading in 2016.
After spells at Derby County and Millwall, the 28-year-old made the move to the SToK Cae Ras in the summer.
Ahead of Wrexham’s FA Cup clash at Mansfield Town on Saturday evening, the former City academy graduate said he would love a chance to play at the Etihad if the Reds made the third round.
“I’d absolutely love it, cup runs are something you dream of,” said Evans.
“I’ve had a few decent runs in the past where we’ve played some big teams but not really kicked on, but if there was a time to do it, being here would be really special.
“As a young lad coming through at 18, you’re at a vital part of your career where you’re learning. If you can train on the best pitches with the best coaches and some of the best players in the world at the time you learn so much.
“If you go there with an open mind of wanting to work hard, listen, and put the extra yards in you can only benefit. Looking back now it was a massive help to me at that stage.”
After making the move from the Championship to League Two, the midfielder is backing more players to drop down.
“The leagues now, they’re not too far apart, with players coming down it has raised the standard a little bit as well,” Evans added.
“A lot of lads that aren’t playing in the Championship and League One will definitely be looking at League Two and thinking it’s not a massive drop-down.
“Especially with the players in this side, I’ve been at a few Championship clubs before and there’s players here that are definitely capable of playing a bit higher.
“I don’t think there’s much difference quality-wise, there’s just a few things teams as a whole can see things in a different way.
” It hasn’t come as a surprise because I knew it would be a decent level but we’ve played some great teams and some of the players here are definitely capable of playing at a higher level.”
