Douglas Luiz has been called up to the Brazil national team for the November internationals.

The 25-year-old last played for the national team in October 2021. He will join the squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina after impressing for Aston Villa.

Brazil is currently third with seven points, the same as Uruguay, which is second. They are currently five points behind Argentina, who leads qualifying.

Brazil will play Colombia at the Estadio Metropolitano on November 17 before hosting World Cup champions Argentina on November 22.

If Luiz is selected, he will face Villa teammate Emi Martinez.

Defenders: Emerson Royal (Tottenham), Carlos Augusto (Inter Milan), Renan Lodi (Olympique Marseille), Bremer (Juventus), Gabriel Magalhaes (Arsenal), Nino (Fluminense), Marquinho (PSG).

Midfielders: Andre (Fluminense), Bruno Guimaraes (Newcastle), Douglas Luiz (Aston Villa), Joelinton (Newcastle), Raphael Veiga (Palmeiras), Rodrygo (Real Madrid).

Attackers: Endrick (Palmeiras), Gabriel Jesus (Arsenal), Gabriel Martinelli (Arsenal), Joao Pedro (Brighton), Paulinho (Atletico MG), Pepê (FC Porto), Raphinha (Barcelona), Vinicius Junior (Real Madrid).

The recall has prompted several responses from Villa supporters. One said: “Criminal it’s taken this long to be honest. Imagine him & Guimaraes holding.”

While a second added “At last, usually sleep the international breaks off but will be looking out for him for sure,” and a third continued: “It’s about damn time!”
