Rangers skipper James Tavernier celebrates strike vs Hearts with John Lundstram as Ibrox men book Viaplay Cup Final spot vs Aberdeen at Hampden next month

John Lundstram has labelled James Tavernier a ‘man mountain’ as he heaped huge praise on his Rangers skipper.

The Light Blues captain stepped up to the plate at Hampden as he netted two goals in the semi-final triumph over Hearts in the Viaplay Cup to book a return ticket next month for the showpiece against Aberdeen and take his goal tally for the club to an incredible 111. His first came from the penalty spot after Zander Clark had fouled Danilo before he fired a stunning free-kick into the top corner with a Scott Wright effort sandwiched in-between.

Midfielder Lundstram reckons his colleague does NOT get enough credit for bailing out Rangers from tough moments – something he has done on more than one occasion – and gets unfair criticism. He can’t speak highly enough of his captain and reckons he can’t give him any more praise as he rates him that highly. He explained: “He is some player. I don’t think I can give him any more praise. He is captain of the club and he gets unfair criticism sometimes from you guys [in the media] and people outside and sometimes he doesn’t get enough credit when he gets us out of tough moments.

“I can’t speak highly enough of him. He is a man mountain – when the pressure is on he steps up.”

New boss Philippe Clement is unbeaten in five games since taking over as manager from Michael Beale last month. He’s got a perfect three for three Scottish Premiership record on top of victory on his first trip to Hampden while he picked up what could prove to be a huge point at Sparta Prague.
