Carla Ward admitted her job may be in jeopardy following Villa’s 6-0 loss to Chelsea in the Women’s Super League.

Ward’s team is now bottom of the table after five defeats in their first five games this season. And the Villa manager is aware that the club’s upper management may be forced to make a decision about her future.

“You’re only a few games away from being fired.” “The one certainty in football is that it is ruthless,” she said. “It’s a numbers game.” I give everything to the players, and they give me everything. I will continue to give everything every minute I am here,” she added, “but it is out of my hands.

If the board decides to fire me, I will do so with dignity.”

Birmingham City extended their unbeaten run in the Championship to five games with a 2-1 victory over Reading. Charlie Devlin’s brace earned Darren Carter’s side all three points, propelling them to fifth place in the division. Newcastle United thrashed Stourbridge 5-0 in the National League Northern Premier Division, while Wolves were defeated 2-0 by Nottingham Forest.

Albion were defeated 3-1 at league leaders Burnley, despite a goal from Francesca Orthodoxou.

Skye Owen (two), Laura Smith (two), Leonie Joyce, Megan Cann, Lowri Walker, Daisy Wickett, Olivia Stubbs, Alexandra Liddiard, and Isabelle Austin-Short scored twice each as Sporting Khalsa thrashed Notts County 11-0. Darlaston Town suffered an 11-0 defeat at the hands of top-of-the-league Newcastle Town in Division One North.

Walsall were eliminated from the Division One Cup after losing 3-2 to Leek Town Reserves, despite goals from Mia Fellows and Jessica Bates.
