At Bolton on Saturday, Blackpool could set a League One away attendance record for the 2023-24 season.

Blackpool are on track to have their largest away crowd of the season when they visit Bolton on Saturday.

Furthermore, the number of Seasiders fans expected at the Toughsheet Community Stadium is expected to be among the highest – if not the highest overall – in League One this season.

More than 3,800 Blackpool fans have already purchased their match tickets and will travel the 26 miles along the M55 and then down the M6 after the Bloomfield Road club’s initial ticket allocation of 2,645 was quickly snapped up.

The Trotters made an additional 1,082 seats available last week, ensuring that a crowd of more than 21,000 is expected for the third v eighth battle. The number of away fans could now reach 5,000, with the Seasiders receiving yet another batch of extra tickets due to high demand.

There is still availability for any Blackpool fans who have yet to decide if they want to go on Saturday, but anyone with reservations may miss out as there is sure to be a fantastic atmosphere inside the ground as both clubs compete for crucial promotion points.

Blackpool’s best away crowd this season is the 1,430 who came to Oakwell on September 30 to watch Neil Critchley’s men beat Barnsley 1-0.

However, their potential Bolton attendance figure is set to dwarf that as fans continue to flock to the Seasiders. And it’s set to propel Blackpool into the top four in terms of away attendances recorded by third-tier clubs this season, with the serious possibility of exceeding the 4,407 Carlisle fans who visited the Toughsheet Community Stadium back in October.

The Cumbrians’ fans were rewarded that day with a 3-1 victory over Ian Evatt’s side, which silenced the home fans.

When Wigan fans descended on Bolton on August 19 to witness a 4-0 win, they had the division’s second-highest away attendance of the season.

3,896 Derby fans travelled to Peterborough for their 4-2 win over the Posh on August 28.
