Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson believes his team can fulfil their Hollywood owners’ dream of reaching the Premier League.

WHAT OCCURED? Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have lofty goals for Wrexham and hope to see their team play in the Premier League. Manager Phil Parkinson recognises the challenge, but insists it is not “impossible” for his club.

WHAT THEY SAID: “Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have always said they want to take Wrexham to the Premier League,” he said at the FWA North West Awards to William Hill. “People may think they’re getting carried away, but teams like Luton Town and Bournemouth have made it into the Premier League, so it’s not impossible.”

“That’s the beauty of the pyramid structure: anything is possible.” There is a route to take. It’s not about running before you can walk; it’s about establishing a structure and developing a culture and identity. We must be prepared for ups and downs along the way. I’m always thinking about the next game, but the club will win in the end.

THE BIGGER PICTURE: With promotion last season, Reynolds and McElhenney have already seen Wrexham rise from non-league football to League Two. It remains to be seen how far they can go, but Wrexham are in good shape to gain another promotion, currently sitting third in the fourth-tier table.

WHAT NEXT? Wrexham are back in League Two action on Sunday against Gillingham.
