Scott Wright has provided Rangers fans with an injury update, claiming that the injury that kept him out of the game against Sparta Prague isn’t “too serious.”
The 26-year-old was absent from the Light Blues’ 2-1 win over Sparta Prague on Thursday (9 November), as goals from Danilo and Todd Cantwell ensured that Philippe Clement’s side advanced to the knockout stages despite his absence.
Wright came on as a second-half substitute in the Light Blues’ Viaplay Cup semi-final win over Hearts, but he did pick up a knock in the closing stages.
“I took a little knock at the end of the semi-final, nothing too serious, but gutted to miss the nights under the lights at Ibrox,” he told the Daily Record (9 November).
“It was a clean slate under the new manager, and I’ve been given an opportunity that I’m trying to seize with both hands.”
It appears that Wright will be back on the pitch at Ibrox soon, as the 26-year-old is confident that his current injury will not keep him out for an extended period of time, which will be a huge boost for Rangers and their supporters.
Few expected the Ibrox crowd to be frustrated by the winger’s absence on European nights during the summer transfer window, when it appeared Wright would leave Glasgow quietly given the influx of attacking talent.
But, having found his way back into the side under Michael Beale before being sacked, Wright is making the most of the second chance given to him by Clement and thriving in the Belgian’s side.
Wright may not be one of the first names on the team sheet at Ibrox, but he has been instrumental in the club’s excellent start to life under Clement, and he appears to be a completely different player than the one supporters saw at the start of the season.
He now has the ideal opportunity to get back into shape as the November international break approaches following the Gers’ match against Livingston on Sunday (12 November).
