Rangers defeated Sparta Prague in the Europa League on Thursday night (10 November) at Ibrox.

With goals from Danilo and Todd Cantwell in the first half, the Gers won 2-1 and increased their chances of progressing to the next round of the competition. Lee McCulloch was very impressed with the performance of Gers youngster Ross McCausland, who came on for Cantwell in the second half.

On Sportssound (via BBC Sport), the BBC pundit praised him as “tremendous” and “absolutely brilliant” for his assured performance. McCulloch stated that the 20-year-old appeared confident and unfazed by the magnitude of the game.

“McCausland was simply brilliant.” Bubbly, with pace and a technical first touch. “Tremendous tonight,” McCulloch said. Despite the magnitude of the game, he appeared confident while playing in this cauldron. I believe the fans adored him. He definitely gave the stadium a boost.

A huge victory
Rangers were clearly the superior of the two teams. The Beers could have easily scored more goals, but they blew several opportunities to end the game. When Lukas Haraslin scored in the 77th minute, the game became very tense, and Sparta pushed for an equaliser. Rangers eventually held on for a crucial three points, keeping them second in Group C, two points behind Real Betis.

Rangers players played at a high tempo on a night when Ibrox was absolutely buzzing. Philippe Clement has already had a significant impact on the team, and the Gers are expected to improve further in the future.

Clement wants his players to be free to make mistakes, and Rangers played some vintage football at times, which we didn’t see under Michael Beale.
