Rangers manager Philippe Clement believes Scottish league officials must give teams competing in Europe more rest time if they are to be successful throughout the season.

Gers faced Sparta Prague in the Europa League on Thursday evening and came away with a 2-1 victory at Ibrox. Three days later, they travel to Livingston for lunch, and the Belgian believes that the time between games isn’t long enough for his players to recover properly, as he makes a subtle dig at the fixture schedule.

“First and foremost, we have a few players returning from injury who put up really high numbers against (Sparta) Prague on Thursday,” he told Sky Sports. It’s a very short recovery time before playing at 12 o’clock on a Sunday.

It’s also a little unique. I believe that if the Scottish league wants teams to do well in Europe and compete with the best teams, we must provide adequate recovery time. As a result, we must adapt.

We have 12 games in 38 days after the international break, so it’s going to be a really busy schedule, and we’ll need everyone, so it’s important that as many players as possible are deserving of it and getting a chance to connect on the field with the rest of the team and learn the principles.”
