We are pleased to welcome Dr Daniel Plumley, an expert in football finance, as our special West Ham United columnist. He will share his opinions on the most talked-about topics at the London Stadium once a week.

David Moyes’ contract at West Ham United is expiring this season, and Dan Plumley has stated that firing him would be a relatively cheap decision.

It follows Sean Whetstone’s report that Tim Steidten would be compiling a list of potential successors regardless of Moyes’s future.

The financial expert acknowledged that all managers experience a natural course at their clubs, but as the reports mount, Moyes’s time may be running out.

He exclusively told West Ham Zone, “With this, we have to remember that all managers run a natural course of time at all clubs.”

With new individuals taking on the roles of technical director and sporting director recruitment at West Ham and higher ups in the ownership structure, it appears that this is beginning to happen there.

“That obviously calls into question the manager’s role, but as long as the players’ on-field performances are good enough to satisfy the board, that will probably stay in place.”

“Considering the difficulties of playing in Europe now and their recent success, West Ham has likely had as strong of a start to the season as many would have hoped for.

“You get the impression that there was going to be a resolution to the Moyes situation, and that resolution is approaching quickly. I don’t mean to be disrespectful; I simply believe that is the club’s nature and direction.

“It will be interesting to see how that plays out, but if you’re looking to make that move anyway, the cheaper that becomes the more the contract runs down.”
