CoventryLive provides up-to-date information on Coventry City injuries as we assess Mark Robins’ injured players’ chances of returning before the Sky Blues’ international break.
Only two senior players are currently out of first team action, and their returns are not too far off, meaning Coventry City manager Mark Robins is getting very close to having a fully fit squad for the first time this season.
The much-awaited comeback of star midfielder Callum O’Hare in recent weeks has given the Sky Blues manager hope. The 25-year-old has started four games this season after starting none since Boxing Day of last year. After missing six games due to a hamstring strain, midfielder Liam Kelly was back in the matchday squad for the weekend’s match against Stoke, though he did not play.
But injuries are a part of the job, and there’s always going to be another casualty. While Kyle McFadzean was on compassionate leave after his mother passed away last week, there was also illness in the camp during that time. The list of injuries, absences, and anticipated return dates for City players is provided below.
Palmer Kasey
The team’s most inventive player and playmaker, Ben Sheaf, sustained an adductor tear injury in the same game—possibly during the 3-2 loss to Cardiff City in September. Palmer was initially expected to be out for six to eight weeks, but he has now missed nine extended games.
The good news is that Robins has revealed that he will return following the international break and likely train the week before the Millwall match. That’s pleasing to us. Thankfully, he’s turned the corner now. We can anticipate that he will now advance fairly rapidly.”
Possible return date: Saturday, November 25 vs Millwall
McFadzean Kyle
The dependable center-half missed Saturday’s goalless draw with Stoke after taking an understandable break to be with his family following the tragic death of his mother last week. It is anticipated that the defender will be granted compassionate leave for as long as necessary.
Date of potential return unknown at this time.
Fabio Tavares
The young striker ruptured his Achilles tendon in early January in the FA Cup defeat to Wrexham and the projected comeback time was late September/early October. Tavares has been back on the grass for a month and now joining in certain drills with the first team.
Robins said: “Fabio’s getting there. He’s on the grass and will join in fully after this international break.”
Possible return date: Unknown at this stage.
