Young player Omari Kellyman of Aston Villa is expected to miss up to ten weeks of action due to a hamstring injury sustained last week.
Over the past 12 months, the 18-year-old has become one of our best young players. He has not only shown promise for the U21 team but has also earned a spot in Unai Emery’s starting lineup.
He has mostly done so in training sessions, but he has also played in our Europa Conference League qualifying round, the EFL Cup, and multiple Premier League games as a substitute.
Kellyman has a bright future ahead of him if he keeps up his current trajectory, as evidenced by the new long-term contract he signed earlier this month. However, bad news this week came from The Athletic, who reported that Kellyman injured his hamstring against Crawley Town and will likely be out for eight to ten weeks.
Given his recent progress, it’s a frustrating setback for the teenager, even though it’s obviously not a long-term concern as he’ll be back next year and will look to impress again in the second half of the campaign.
Although there was no assurance that he would play more frequently at the senior level, given our busy fixture schedule between the end of November and the start of the new year, there might have been chances for him to play, especially in Europe.
However, the priority now will be to make sure he recovers fully from the injury and regains his best form upon his return in order to prepare for a potentially significant phase of his career that could take place next summer.
In the hopes that Kellyman will eventually have a successful career wearing a Villa shirt, Villa will probably decide whether or not he would benefit from spending another year with the youth team or if going on loan to another team will further aid in his growth and development.
