As he works to regain full fitness, Alex Moreno has started playing again for Aston Villa’s Under-21 team.
The defender hasn’t played for Unai Emery’s team since suffering a hamstring injury during the 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Anfield back in May. After intensifying his rehabilitation, Moreno missed the entire preseason before making his matchday squad comeback in September.
He did not play in the matchups against Legia Warsaw and Crystal Palace, and he was not included in the squad that travelled to Chelsea later on. Moreno wasn’t entirely at ease to play, according to Emery, so he wasn’t included in the squad. However, he hasn’t been named since.
However, he appears to be headed back now that he’s posted an update on X (formerly known as Twitter). “Minutes for the legs..!” He stated.
In the Premier League Cup, Villa U21 defeated Swansea City 4–3. The left-back played 63 minutes of that match.
It was earlier revealed that Moreno had experienced a setback. Emery stated prior to Villa’s October 22 victory over West Ham: “We are patient with them because they are progressing very well.” Being accessible to play two or three weeks ago was the last action they neglected to take.
Moreno was working out with us, but he failed to complete the final drill in order to be fully recovered and ready to play. We pulled him off. At this point, he won’t require much time—he’s making good progress—to be ready to play official matches in addition to training with us.
