With over 4,000 supporters, Blackpool nearly broke the League One attendance record for the 2023–2024 campaign at Bolton Wanderers.

4,171 fans attended the Tangerines’ game at Toughsheet Community Stadium, but sadly, the team was unable to secure the three points. Ian Evatt won 1-0 against the team that he had played for several years as a youth player, thanks to a goal from George Thomason, who was on the books of Blackpool.

Blackpool’s attendance at Bolton is currently the second-highest away attendance record of the season; the only team with a higher attendance total is the recently promoted Carlisle United, who brought in over 4,400 fans to Bolton. There were no pay-on-the-day options available because tickets went on sale on Friday, but if they had, we might be seated here as the league’s best-supported team.

Blackpool is ranked seventh in home attendance rankings thanks to their average of 10,641 at Bloomfield Road. However, what about the supporters who, excuse the pun, go above and beyond to cheer on the Tangerines away from home? Even though Blackpool and other major clubs have played in the Premier League, they have fallen on hard times and are now in the third division of English football, but their fan base is still quite large. Notable supporters include Charlton Athletic, Derby County, and Pompey in addition to Port Vale, who haven’t played there but, oddly, have a sizable away fan base.

This is how the 24 teams in League One compare in terms of their away fan bases. These numbers are derived from data that The 72, a Football League outlet, has compiled throughout the current season.
