We are pleased to have Dr. Daniel Plumley, an authority on football finance, as an exclusive columnist. He will share his opinions on the most talked-about topics at Leeds United once a week.

In a new agreement between the Premier League and the EFL, Dan Plumley has insisted that Leeds United might end up giving money rather than receiving it. According to Sky News, the £915 million New Deal will be put to a vote in November, but it might not be implemented while the Whites are in the second division. The finance expert acknowledged that the story could change if Leeds were promoted back to the Premier League this season and money was given out rather than received.

“If you look at the deal and what’s on the table with the uplift at the Championship clubs, you have that situation at Leeds,” he exclusively stated to MOT Leeds News.

“Obviously, that applies to teams that are in the Championship rather than the Premier League and to clubs that do not receive parachute payments.

“If you look at Leeds United right now, they are receiving parachute payments and will continue to do so for the next two years. If they do get promoted, it becomes irrelevant because they will now be back in the Premier League and have access to television revenue.

The story then reverses, with Leeds effectively contributing money to the Premier League as part of their membership, returning to the football league.

“At this point, we know that any deal—even if it is agreed upon—will take a few years before Championship clubs actually benefit financially, so Leeds is probably not as concerned about it as they should be.”
