Wayne Rooney has been cautioned by former England player Carlton Palmer that he will not get his wish when it comes to signing a star player for Wrexham.
Former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney has had a rough start to life at Birmingham City, as his new team has suffered four losses in his first five games. Their most recent defeat to Sunderland exacerbated an appalling start to their new head coach’s first full month at St Andrew’s.
The former record goalscorer for England is linked to moves for reinforcements in January as he looks to start his career in the Second City. Elliot Lee of Wrexham has been mentioned as a possible new recruit after making an impression while he was in North Wales.
The goal-scoring midfielder, who was a member of the Red Dragons’ squad that won promotion the previous season, is becoming more and more popular after scoring ten goals so far this year. Palmer, a former player for the Three Lions, has forecasted that Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds might be reluctant to give up their asset.
The eighteen-time international acknowledged to Football League World that he had recently been impressed by the former West Ham trainee Lee. He stated: “In my opinion, Lee is a Championship level player playing in a lower division, so it’s no surprise to me that he’s attracting the attention of Championship clubs.”
Palmer can clearly see, though, that Wrexham’s aspirational owners are not under any pressure to cash in on the prolific midfield player. “But Championship clubs would have to make an unbeatable offer as Wrexham are ambitious, well-funded, and not under any pressure to sell,” he continued.
Lee’s desire to leave Wrexham at this time would surprise me, as the team is on a mission and trying to earn back-to-back promotions. Birmingham will probably need to look elsewhere.”
Birmingham manager Rooney has presided over a precipitous decline in the team’s performance; after a run of defeats, the Blues are currently mired in 18th place in the Championship. Their problems stem from a stellar season debut for former manager John Eustace, who took the team to sixth place prior to his contentious dismissal.
But even after a dismal start to his time at St Andrew’s, the new manager appears to be holding onto hope. Regarding possible transfers during the winter window, Rooney stated: “It depends on where we are right now.
Clearly, there is a great deal of work to be done. I would like to bring in a few players. Thus, we need to work out how to accomplish that. That is undoubtedly
