Jake Beesley made the most of his starting eleven position for Blackpool, scoring twice as the team defeated Morecambe 2-1 in Tuesday’s EFL Trophy match.

In the opening moments of the second half, the striker headed past Adam Smith for his second goal, after producing an incredible volley with his back to goal in the first half.

Beesley, who is 26 years old, has fallen behind others in the pecking order and has not been playing often lately.

“Jake is aware of his location,” Seasiders manager Neil Critchley clarified.

“Every day at training, he has an incredible attitude—he never pouts or puts his head down. The boys adore him. He is extremely modest and humble. He’s excited to play and wants to get better. We will continue to work with him and we have the utmost respect for him, even though it has been a frustrating time for him.

“His header in the second half and his left-foot volley against Morecambe were fantastic goals. He’s had a great week because he became a father as well. I’m very happy for Bees because, although going through a difficult time, his attitude is great. He wants to keep getting better, and he is very eager to work hard to do so. That’s the message to the players when they get a chance; he’s given me something to think about.

He visited me the other day, and since then, we have spoken. Where he is, he is aware.

It’s been a wonderful few days for him to become a father last week and have that night where he scores two goals.

Blackpool has several options available right now.

Since joining on loan from Huddersfield Town, Jordan Rhodes has been in incredible form, and Kylian Kouassi has also made a strong case for himself.

In addition, the summer signing Kyle Joseph has returned to the Seasiders from injury. However, Shayne Lavery will be out for a few weeks.

At the top of the pitch, we have a few options, and we’re making progress,” Critchley continued.

“We need to be a little more consistent in everything we do, but the team is making good progress, and I have no doubt that they will get better before the season is out.
