In an emotional speech posted to Instagram, Steven Davis expressed his gratitude to Rangers for the “huge honour” of having him serve as their temporary manager.
After a disastrous start to the Premiership season, Michael Beale was fired by the Ibrox giants at the beginning of October, just before the final international break. Davis was given the chance to take the team through a challenging moment in the short term. After suffering a serious injury in December of last year, Davis was permitted to continue his rehabilitation at Auchenhowie even though his playing contract with the Rangers expired in the summer.
Before Philippe Clement was named as Beale’s long-term replacement, Davis managed the team’s victories against St. Mirren in Paisley and the Europa League loss to Aris Limassol. After the Belgian’s arrival, he remained close to the coaching staff, but he has since stated that he will devote all of his efforts to completing his knee rehabilitation.
“A huge honour to be asked to step in and be interim manager @rangersfc at a difficult moment,” he posted on social media. An event I will always treasure and from which I learned a great deal.
“I am grateful to the club for believing in me, as well as to the staff and fans for their unwavering support throughout this brief time.
It was a pleasure working with @philippeclementofficial, and the team has had a very positive start to his leadership. Like all of you, I hope the partnership will be long and fruitful, and I know that’s what he and his staff will demand every day.
