It turns out that Wrexham, who play in League Two, have more Instagram followers than more than a third of Premier League teams.
AHEAD OF TIME?
According to a study, Wrexham has 1.1 million followers on Instagram, which is more than seven Premier League teams. The Welsh team has more supporters than Brentford and Luton Town put together, while Fulham, Nottingham Forest, Burnley, Sheffield United, and Bournemouth all have fewer. Only Southampton and Leicester City have more supporters in the Championship, though.
THE LARGER IMAGE
Since Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney acquired the club in early 2021, Wrexham’s popularity has increased. The Welsh team was in the National League when the Always Sunny stars made an investment, but since their return to the Football League and the release of the Welcome to Wrexham docuseries, their fan base on social media has grown dramatically.
AHEAD OF YOU?
As of right now, Wrexham is the most well-liked team in Wales. After playing in the Premier League for the past ten years, Swansea City and Cardiff City have fewer social media followers than the Red Dragons.
FUTURE PLANS FOR WREXHAM?
If Wrexham continues to perform well on the pitch, their popularity may rise even more. Although they are now fourth in the standings, Phil Parkinsons’ team only needs to place among the top three to get promoted to League One. Next weekend, Wrexham will host Morecambe in an attempt to get back to winning ways following their 2-0 loss to Accrington Stanley on Saturday.
