Evan Ferguson, a striker for Brighton, is doubtful to play against Nottingham Forest due to an injury he sustained during the Republic of Ireland’s Saturday loss to the Netherlands in their Euro 2024 qualifying match.
Starting at 3 p.m. on November 25, Forest will play the Seagulls at the City Ground the following Saturday. The return of a few players could help Seagulls head coach Roberto De Zerbi, but Ferguson will probably not.
The 19-year-old first sustained a back injury during Brighton’s victory over Ajax in the Europa League at the beginning of the month. Stephen Kenny, the coach of the Republic of Ireland, still called him up even though he did not play in the subsequent draw with Sheffield United.
With a hamstring injury, Ferguson was replaced in the 55th minute by Jamie McGrath. Soon after the striker was taken off, pundit Tony O’Donoghue provided a status report from pitchside, stating: “I believe it’s fair to say he left the pitch because of an injury.” Because the medical staff immediately brought ice to him and strapped his hamstring region as soon as he arrived at the bench.
“He had a back injury when he arrived at camp, and it appears that he will be leaving with a hamstring injury. That won’t make Brighton very happy.”
Prior to playing Steve Cooper’s team, De Zerbi had previously made hints that four players who were absent from the game against the Blades might resume training. Against the Blades, Lewis Dunk, Tariq Lamptey, James Milner, and Pervis Estupinan were all sidelined.
He stated: “I hope to find out the time for the injured players, Tariq Lamptey, Estupinan, and Lewis Dunk, after the break. I don’t know the time.” I’m hoping and believing that we can locate them on the pitch when we begin training.”
