Giants of the Scottish Premiership, Atalanta and Roma are monitoring Ross McCausland’s situation as Rangers may lose the star player for a meagre £400,000 in the January transfer window.
Not that they needed it, of course, but the rumours circulating regarding Ross McCausland’s future serve as a cautionary tale for Rangers regarding the perils of allowing an unwanted circumstance to persist for too long.
The Daily Record claims that Brentford has already begun circling like vultures, prepared to free the 20-year-old from Philippe Clement’s grasp. Despite their best efforts, the Rangers have not yet agreed to an extension for McCausland, whose contract expires at the end of the current season.
Not unnoticed on the continent, either, is the uncertainty surrounding one of the club’s most exciting young attackers in many a year. According to Tuttomercatoweb, McCausland is being “monitored” by Roma and Atalanta. They’ll keep doing this in front of the winter window.
Serie A giants under Jose Mourinho eye a raid by Rangers
If the Northern Ireland international signs a pre-contract with La Dea or Giallorrosi, the team managed by Jose Mourinho, he could also be acquired for as little as £400,000.
Now, Mourinho’s record in terms of developing young players may not be the best. However, the same cannot be said of Gian Piero Gasperini of Atalanta. Under the former Inter Milan manager, Amad Diallo, Rasmus Hojlund, Cristian Romero, Franck Kessie, and Gianluca Mancini of Roma all made high-profile departures from Bergamo.
Rangers need to extend Ross McCausland’s contract. “I’m pleased he has made the breakthrough,” Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill says of McCausland, who has been playing so well for Rangers lately.
“He’s a talented young athlete. All he needs to do is keep going in the direction he is going. He appears to be benefiting from a manager change, and he is making the most of it. Basically, it’s up to him now. Is he able to remain on the Rangers team?
“After playing for a first team, you start to believe in yourself. He’s a confident boy, so it’s good to have him in any case. He’s a self-assured young man with something to offer.
