Tyrone Mings, a defender for Aston Villa, has finally given an update on his recuperation from the injury he suffered on the first weekend of play.
In August, during our opening Premier League match of the season against Newcastle United, the 30-year-old was stretchered off after just 31 minutes, and his knee surgery quickly allayed early fears.
The expectation is that Mings will miss the entire season due to injury, though no official timeline has been given. His silence during the process has added to our anxiety and fear regarding the severity of the blow.
Mings has chosen to carry out his rehabilitation work out of the public eye, in contrast to Emiliano Buendia, who likewise sustained a serious knee injury around the same time but has consistently posted updates on social media as he recovers.
That hasn’t stopped the dominant Villa center-half from receiving innumerable messages of support, which he emphasised in the video that is posted below.
In the video, he said, “I just wanted to start things off by saying thank you so much for all the messages that people have sent me.” “I just want to share a few bits of what I’ve been up to. I’ve read pretty much every single one of the cards, gifts in the mail, tweets, and everything else. Everything has been so appreciated and has helped me through this early stage.” I hope it helps you understand what a long-term injury looks like in its early stages.
It’s encouraging to see Mings offer some perspective because, having said earlier in the day that he would provide an update on his recuperation, which in turn sparked speculation about his future, there were concerns that this might be a setback that would define his career.
He’s clearly working hard, and hopefully he stays on course, recovers well throughout the course of the rehabilitation process, and is able to return to his pre-injury level of strength.
Villa has been fortunate that Pau Torres has filled in for him and established a strong defensive partnership with Ezri Konsa thus far this season. Diego Carlos has also entered and made an impression.
There is no denying Mings’ importance to us both on and off the pitch, and even though it looks like we won’t have him for a while, it’s encouraging to see that he is improving thanks to the early rehabilitation work, and hopefully he will be ready to return over the summer and start the next season.
