The Uruguayan media has praised Rodrigo Bentancur of Tottenham Hotspur, the midfielder, for his role in his country’s 3-0 victory over Bolivia.
On Tuesday evening, Uruguay defeated Bolivia with a major contribution from Rodrigo Bentancur.
In the 3-0 victory over Bolivia in Montevideo, Marcelo Bielsa’s team saw the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder get the start. Darwin Nunez, a striker for Liverpool, scored a brace on either side of Gabriel Villamil’s own goal. Uruguay is now only two points behind CONMEBOL leaders Argentina in their World Cup qualifying campaign.
Rodrigo Bentancur of Tottenham shines in Uruguay’s victory
Spurs star Bentancur is essential to Bielsa’s plans for this Uruguay squad, with whom he is producing amazing results. The Tottenham star joined Federico Valverde and Nicolas De La Cruz in midfield to begin the 3-0 victory over Bolivia as a sitting midfielder. The Uruguayan media praised Bentancur, giving him a seven out of ten rating from El Observador. They said that Bentancur provided “touches of quality” and displayed a “unique elegance” in the Uruguayan engine room.
Bentancur received a seven out of ten grade from El Pais as well, commending him for establishing himself as a “permanent passing option” in midfield.
Bentancur was said to have been instrumental in Uruguay’s ability to play through the lines throughout the entire match.
Bentancur is still working his way back into shape and fitness after months on the sidelines, so this is really encouraging stuff for Ange Postecoglou to consider. Bentancur had a serious knee injury in February that put him on the treatment table and required a lengthy recuperation period. Bentancur, a midfield player valued at £21.5 million, has so far made three appearances as a substitute this season and is recovering.
It means a lot to Bentancur to start and perform well for Uruguay; he may now feel he has demonstrated enough to start for Spurs.
The absence of James Maddison may tempt Ange Postecoglou to give the Uruguayan a chance right away, but he will be thinking carefully about when to start Bentancur.
Bentancur may force his way into the starting lineup for Tottenham, as Postecoglou is undoubtedly impressed by his performance. However, Tottenham will want to exercise caution with him, particularly following a taxing trip to Uruguay.
