For Wrexham’s match against Morecambe on Saturday, TWO players are returning to the lineup to bolster the ranks. However, news that Jordan Tunnicliffe will miss more time due to injury has hurt Phil Parkinson.
The two wing-backs, James McClean and Jacob Mendy, were away on international duty with the Republic of Ireland and the Gambia, respectively, so they were not present for the team’s 2-0 loss against Accrington Stanley over the weekend.
Tunnicliffe will not play in the League Two matchup against the Shrimps at The Racecourse, even though both players will be back.
The centre back has been dealing with a back issue, but even though he made a late comeback in the team’s 2-0 victory over Gillingham 11 days ago, he has now experienced a setback and was not included in the lineup against Accrington. Unfortunately, Jordan is having difficulty,” the Reds’ manager stated. Jordan will be out for a while as we believe his back is the source of his hamstring issue. I’m not exactly sure what that is yet Jordan is having a lot of difficulties, but there is nothing we can do about it. We just need to work on getting him back into shape. Hopefully, once he does, we can keep him out on the training pitch.
Parkinson claims that Tom O’Connor, a midfielder who has been playing defence, is not seriously hurt. O’Connor left the game at halftime on Saturday at The Crown Ground after suffering an injury. Tom has got a slight tightness in his groyne and didn’t feel himself,” stated Parkinson. When you’re aware of something in a game, it can occasionally cross your mind, and it probably had some effect on him. Although he didn’t have the best start to the game, his injury was the only reason for the substitution.
We will evaluate him throughout the week because he has performed admirably for us, but if something is wrong, we have capable players who can step in. We will give Tom every chance but if it’s not this week, he’ll be close to be being fit for next week. Although they are still sidelined, center-half Eoghan O’Connell, striker Steven Fletcher, and wing-back Ryan Barnett are all healing well. Eoghan was back on the grass yesterday at quite a low level,” Parkinson stated. Steven continues to make progress; following surgery, a natural healing process must occur, but overall, he is happy with how his knee feels.
After taking off the brace, Ryan’s knee stability has pleased us. He will be back running on Thursday but there is still a time before he’s back.”
Despite setbacks due to injuries, Wrexham managed to string together 11 games without a loss before falling to Accrington. The setback dropped the Reds to fourth place in the standings, eight points behind leaders Stockport County. Parkinson believes the Reds have finally been affected by the absences. We have had a lot to contend with over the last month or so,” he stated. Many injuries, international call-ups, and, if we are being really honest, it probably caught up with us a little bit. However, it’s good that James and Jacob will be returning on Saturday.
